PRIVATE & SPORT PilotS
A private or sport pilot may operate an aircraft in which they hold the category and class rating/endorsement for personal flying, with sport pilots having more limitations on their flying privileges. We offer training for both certificates and will help you develop the skills, knowledge, and attitude necessary to be a proficient, safe pilot at either level.

SHOULD I BECOME A Sport Pilot OR Private Pilot?
There are several limitations in privileges of a sport pilot versus a private pilot. In the case of airplanes, sport pilots are limited to single-engine airplanes with a low stall speed and a maximum of four seats. Sport pilots are also restricted to carry only one passenger at a time. Additional training is required for a sport pilot to be allowed to fly into controlled airports and at night.
The biggest consideration on which one should be pursued is whether or not the prospective pilot decides to seek a third-class medical certificate from the FAA. Both sport and private pilots may face other restrictions based on their medical status. We recommend you schedule a consultation with our staff to help you with this decision.
10-WEEK basic Ground School
We offer a 10-week group ground option for this certificate several times a year. This training course provides instruction on all the aeronautical knowledge topics required to take the Private Pilot Airplane or Sport Pilot Airplane Knowledge Exam (does not include flight lessons).
Instrument Rating ADD-ON FOR PRIVATE PILOTS
An instrument rating enables private pilots (sport pilots are not eligible) to fly in various weather conditions and rely on their cockpit instruments for navigation, instead of just their visual references. With this rating, pilots have the skills and knowledge to operate an aircraft solely based on their instruments, allowing them to navigate through clouds, low visibility, and adverse weather conditions with precision and safety. It is recommended for private pilots planning to fly long distances, and is a required step for prospective career pilots.
